Sweet Summertime!

Summer is here! While I do love summer - I am sad at times because the boys aren't here. So, it makes for a lonely house - except for the dogs!

During the last week of school, I kept hearing Will Smith in my head, so I downloaded 'Summertime' from I-tunes and have been jamming to that in my car. I had to promise David that I wouldn't have it blaring from my car when I picked him up from school. Yes, I think I have become that parent who thinks she's cool but ~ I'm really a dork. We had our first homestudy visit on the 22nd of May. It went well ~ I bribed him with brownies. SmileyCentral.com

We will meet again this Sunday. After that we will have two more meetings and then we can have our homestudy complete. Meanwhile, I get to run around and consolidate all the paperwork we need to complete the homestudy.

My brother is getting married on the 19th. That is something to look forward to!

It is going to be quite a summer but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Some news to share

After bringing the students in from recess this afternoon - I decided to check my personal email and I found an email that starts like this:

"Dear M and K:

Congratulations! Welcome to the Children of All Nations (CAN) family! We are pleased to inform you that your family is eligible for our adoption program based on the information you provided in your CAN application. Your journey is just beginning and we want you to know that we are here to assist you every step of the way."

Hot Dawg! Our application was approved! Woo hoo!

No news

We haven't heard any news yet about our application. I am so impatient to hear! The check cleared the bank yesterday so I know CAN has all the info. Keep your fingers crossed I hear something by the end of the day.

As I went to bed last night, I prayed for our application approval and some way for us to earn more money.

Is it bad to pray for money?

Application mailed today!

I had great plans when I woke up this morning - I had wanted to take a picture as I placed our application package into the mail. But, morning time, . . . begrudgingly get out of bed, fixing my lunch, and all that other morning stuff . . . I seem to always be late. Today, was no different. So, alas, I have no picture but I have a fantastic announcement.

Our application for adoption from Rwanda was mailed today. Wohoo!

T-shirt fundraiser

We are currently starting our paperwork for our Rwanda adoption. We will mail our application this week and wait breathlessly to be approved. But in the meanwhile, there is this website, Adoption Bug, that helps people raise funds for their adoptions by selling family focused t-shirts. How fantastic is that? So, we've submitted our paperwork to Adoption Bug and will soon be joining the other families in our journey to our children.

I am trying to be realistic, I know that we will not sell enough shirts to cover the adoption but any little bit of $$$ can help with the adoption costs.

My parents are coming over tonight for some turkey legs that Kevin is going to smoke on the grill. My parents have been a huge help and probably our biggest cheerleaders. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Why I don't like posting on forums

It seems with the growing trend of technology and it's capabilities for instant communication there seems to be a decline in human compassion.

I enjoy reading blogs and forums - there is quite a bit of information to be gained and sometimes they can be amusing.

I frequently read ones that deal with international adoption, weight loss, medical issues and so on.

For some reason, people use their computers as their shield. I guess ~ maybe ~ we can say things we wouldn't normally say to someone if we were talking face to face.

But . . . I don't contribute often. Why? Because, people are cruel. Somehow the use of technology has desensitized individuals to the feelings of others. I try on a daily basis not be a hurtful person. I watch my words carefully - I am honest - I will not lie but I will tell the truth in a kind manner. In the wave of technology and communicating, in my opinion, there seems to be quite a few people who are always trying to get the last word. You see, there is a problem with an electronic word - it shows no feeling - there is always the possibility that I can misconstrue the intent or meaning of what someone wrote.

I frequently read an adoption blog/forum that primarily deals with Chinese adoption. The individual who runs the blog succeeds very well in keeping waiting parents updated on the current issues with China adoption. People that are connected to the Chinese adoptions, whether they be prospective parents, grandparents, relatives of prospective parents, etc can contribute to the forum. There are many different topics. I have no problem with the blog or the forum - except for the individuals who, well - figure of speech - continue to beat the dead horse.

I feel that this post is just rambling on - I apologize for that.

Maybe my point is this - people need to embrace more passion for each other - regardless of where we are and what we are doing. If we are at work, home, or blogging on our computers - we need to be respectful of others and their opinions - even if we disagree.

New Blog Title

I changed the title of our blog. I'm not quite sure I like this new title but it seems to fit the new title pic. So ~ for those individuals who read this blog ~ a number I could count on my left hand ~ tell me what you think!

Rwanda and Adoption

Rwanda is a small country in Eastern Africa along the Rift Valley.

Kevin and I have been talking about starting a concurrent adoption while we wait for Lily's referral from China. We have been looking at Rwanda pretty intently.

Large Map - Rwanda has been circled

We have an informational meeting with C.A.N. (Children of all Nations) on March 20th. This agency is also part of the Great Wall Adoption Agency who we are using for Lily's adoption. Speaking of Chinese Adoption - there is a rumor that referrals may go to April 12th - if that's so - we're looking at an estimate of 80 referrals! It's been a very long time we've seen numbers like that!

I have been getting super excited - almost to the point - I can't sleep at night! Keep your fingers crossed!

Basketball and Remodeling

David is playing city basketball. His first game was last week and they won by three! I love close games because they are so exciting.

We have been busy putting a new laminate floor in our den. We used to have this hunter green carpet, which I hated! I didn't even like hunter green when it was the big thing in the 90's. Remember that? Hunter green and burgandy - makes me shudder. Kevin was a great trooper and between him and Steven they got that laminate floor put in and it looks great! We also got new furniture to go with.
